Your habits stay yours — here's exactly what we do with your data.
What lives on your device
Your habits, goals, completion history, streaks, voice-journal transcripts, and settings are stored locally on your iPhone (and shared with the Kindling home-screen widget). Kindling has no account and no sign-in — this data isn't uploaded to a profile anywhere.
Apple Health (optional)
With your permission, Kindling reads — never writes — workouts, steps, active/exercise time, water, and sleep from Apple Health. It uses these only to auto-fill matching habits (for example, counting last night's hours toward a sleep goal) and to give your coach context. Health data is never used for advertising, marketing, or data mining, and is never sold. Short summaries derived from it (for example, "slept 7.2 hours" or "ran 5 km") may be included in the request used to generate your coaching message — see Your AI coach below. You can turn Health access off anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.
Voice journal (optional)
If you record a spoken check-in, Kindling uses the microphone and Apple's speech recognition to transcribe it; that transcription may be processed by Apple. The resulting text is stored on your device and may be included in the request used to generate your coaching message. You can skip the voice journal entirely and the app works the same.
Your AI coach
To write each message, Kindling sends a summary of your habit data — along with any voice-journal text and Apple Health summaries — to our backend on Amazon Web Services, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to generate the response. This information is used only to produce your message. It is not sold, not used to show you ads, and — under Anthropic's API terms — not used to train their models. Our backend forwards the request to generate the reply and does not store your habit, journal, or Health content in our own databases.
On newer iPhones, when the network is unavailable Kindling can generate a message entirely on-device using Apple's built-in models — in that case the text never leaves your phone.
Analytics
Kindling uses PostHog to understand how the app is used — screens viewed and features used, which may include the names of habits you create. This is first-party product analytics that helps us improve the app. There are no advertising identifiers (no IDFA), no cross-app or cross-site tracking, and we don't sell this data.
Subscriptions
Kindling Premium is an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple's in-app purchase. RevenueCat and Superwall manage subscription status and the paywall; they receive a device identifier and your purchase status. Apple processes the payment — we never see your card details.
What we don't do
- No selling or renting your personal data.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers (no IDFA).
- No use of Health data for advertising, marketing, or data mining.
- No cross-app or cross-website tracking.
- No account, password, or cloud profile.
Your controls
- Revoke Health, Microphone, or Speech Recognition access anytime in iOS Settings.
- Export your habit data from Kindling → Settings → Export my data.
- Delete everything Kindling stores by deleting the app.
- Email us to ask what we hold or to request deletion.
Who processes data for us
We rely on a small set of providers, each handling data only to deliver their part of the service: Apple (in-app purchases, Apple Health, speech recognition), Anthropic (AI coaching messages), Amazon Web Services (backend that relays coaching requests), PostHog (product analytics), and RevenueCat & Superwall (subscription management).
Your rights
Depending on where you live — for example, the EEA and UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA — you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Email support@rivotlabs.com and we'll help.
Children
Kindling is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes we'll update this page and revise the date at the top. Past versions are available on request.
